About Us

Petr Explosives Group, situated in Golden, Colorado, is a private educational company established by Dr. Vilem Petr in 2019. With a background as a former professor at the Colorado School of Mines and over 22 years of industry expertise, our commitment lies in delivering outstanding explosive education. We extend services to aid individuals in obtaining explosives permits and licenses, whether for blasters or companies. Our continuous program has gained both national and international recognition, a testament to the consistent quality we provide in this field. Utilizing innovative teaching methodologies and tools, we offer a dynamic learning experience through in-person and online classes. These programs are approved in more than 14 states and growing, facilitating explosives permit and certificate of fitness renewals.

We offer a comprehensive, up-to-date series of training classes as part of our International Explosives Academy Program (IEAP). This program includes options for hands-on, real-life practical training courses in various unique laboratory settings.  Graduates are awarded an Explosives Technology Diploma from IEAP. The Explosive Technology Diploma from IEAP does not carry university credit, but it holds significant value as a nationally recognized certificate that validates the time invested in professional development and training activities related to explosives technologies. This diploma serves as a tangible proof of participation and successful completion of the program’s training sessions. It signifies a commitment to enhancing one’s skills and knowledge within the field of explosives technology. This type of recognition is valuable in industries where practical expertise and hands-on experience hold substantial weight alongside formal academic achievements. Our program and classes are accredited by esteemed professional associations, including the International Makers of Explosives (IME),  International Society of Explosive Engineers (ISEE), and Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME).

In addition to our educational classes, we’ve developed new tools to swiftly refresh the understanding of core terminology, definitions, regulations, and other pertinent aspects within the explosives industry.
